In my thesis, I delve into the heart of Ecuadorian folklore, exploring the unnerving legend of the "Guagua Diablo"
through the dual lenses of digital art and interactive gaming. This infamous myth involves a deceptive specter in
the highlands, which ensnares solitary travelers with its distressed cries, only to reveal its true demonic nature
when approached.
The project encompasses two main components: a series of concept art pieces that visually interpret the legend's eerie
narrative, capturing the emotions and the setting with vivid detail; and a playable game demo that immerses the player
in the suspenseful environment of the tale. The game challenges participants to discern reality from deceit, offering
a path to either salvation or doom based on their choices and actions within the folklore's haunting framework.
Through this creative and scholarly work, I aim to not only preserve and share a piece of Ecuadorian cultural heritage
but also to investigate how traditional stories can be transformed and given new life in the digital age. The thesis
stands as a testament to the enduring power of folklore, art, and technology to captivate and educate across generations.
